| | OEM Brake Upgrades Starting in 2006, the WRX got the four-piston/two-piston (front/rear) brakes that the Japanese cars have had for years. These will bolt directly on to earlier WRX cars (and other late-model Subarus).
Upgrading to the larger OEM brakes means you get factory parts and factory fit. Front calipers bulk up from two-piston to four, and rears from single-piston to two-piston. You don't need super-large wheels, either; the OEM big brakes fit under most of the Subaru 16" factory wheels.
If there's any downside to converting to Japanese Subaru brake bits, it's the cost. By the time you buy all the hardware,it gets close to the cost of an even BIGGER aftermarket kit.
Note that in 2008, the WRX reverted back to the smaller brakes again. The four-pot calipers will bolt on to the front, but the two-pots will no longer bolt to the rear of the 2008+ WRX.
OEM big brakes.
