| | STi Performance The WRX STi is Subaru's top dog, but (of course!) there's still plenty of room for improvement. Some WRX performance parts also apply to the STi, but there are quite a few areas of differentiation. Here we'll talk about some of those differences, and how they pertain to buying parts for the car.
Higher-output engine. The STI has a higher-output (305 hp) engine, with variable valve timing on both intake and exhaust cams, a bigger turbocharger and intercooler than the WRX, and a different intake manifold.
Brembo brakes. The brakes on the STi are Brembos all around. They're awesome. But they are huge, and many wheels won't fit over them.
Different hubs. Starting in 2005, the STi got 5x114.3 bolt-pattern hubs. That means normal 5x100 wheels won't bolt on. And keep in mind the brake clearance issues mentioned above.
STi suspension. The STI has fancier inverted shocks, stiffer springs, stiffer bushings, and fatter sway bars than the WRX.
There are some other minor differences, too. The six-speed tranny has its own unique clutch and flywheel.
Most of our product pages explain clearly whether they will work on the WRX STi. If you have any questions, just call us and we'll be happy to explain in more detail.
