  • Ditch your WRX’s weak plastic turbo inlet and upgrade to the Overtake "Big Turbo" aluminum turbo inlet. Designed for 2022+ WRX models equipped with aftermarket larger-than-stock turbos, this inlet features a 54.5mm inlet diameter -- a full 5mm larger than the standard Overtake turbo inlet, for an increase in cross sectional area of 21%.

This oversized inlet is perfect for FA24 cars equipped with an aftermarket turbo like the Boost Lab BL54XR, or any other equivalent larger-inlet turbocharger.

This high-strength aluminum piece improves airflow and adds horsepower, while eliminating the risk of cracks common in the OEM part. Plus, the Overtake design greatly simplifies the intake plumbing AND increases intake efficiency. Read on.

Modern vehicles must prevent fuel vapors from escaping the gas tank, instead routing them to the engine so they can be burned off. When the engine is off, the entire system is sealed - hence the importance of a good gas-cap seal. At idle and under vacuum (no boost), a purge solenoid periodically opens and draws vapors directly into the intake manifold. Under light boost (0–4 psi), manifold pressure is too high to draw vapors in, so the solenoid instead routes them to the turbo inlet, where the natural pressure drop through the air intake creates enough suction. However, there is a flaw in this design. The evap sensor is located far away from the inlet and there is a long hose run between the two. This can lead to weak readings at the sensor. To remedy this, Subaru introduced a "band-aid" fix by drilling a 4mm hole into the turbo’s compressor housing feeding a venturi-style “ejector.” This intentional boost leak increases airflow through a small channel on the factory inlet, generating an artificial vacuum so the sensor always detects the expected pressure drop while vapors continue entering the turbo.

At wide-open throttle, the purge solenoid closes, holding the vapors in the tank, but the "ejector" continues leaking boost across the venturi into the turbo inlet. As a result, the turbo must spin faster to maintain target boost, raising charge temperatures, reducing intercooler efficiency, and limiting top-end airflow and boost potential. As a precaution, Subaru circulates coolant under the turbo inlet to keep the venturi from freezing, which would disable the EVAP system entirely. This coolant flow drastically heats up the factory turbo inlet to around 200 degrees Fahrenheit, which in-turn heats the air entering your turbo, leading to decreased performance potential.

As an alternative, the Overtake Turbo Inlet utilizes the engine’s vacuum pump as a direct source to constantly supply only the necessary vacuum level, and places the source closer to the sensor. This pump is only utilized for the power braking system in the factory setup, so to ensure the Overtake kit does not hinder braking performance at all, an inline restrictor pill is included to limit the vacuum levels to the required amount for the sensor to read properly. This preserves proper fuel vapor management, without relying on Subaru’s built-in boost leak. Since there's no longer any potential for the small ejector orifice to freeze over, we can also bypass the coolant loop through the inlet, which also greatly improves performance potential by allowing fresh, cool air from your intake to enter the compressor side of the turbocharger.

On top of all of this, the factory Subaru turbo inlet features a couple of internal pockets which are meant to dampen induction sound and increase surface area for inlet warming. These pockets also greatly disrupt the air entering your turbocharger. The Overtake inlet ditches them, allowing for a smooth path of flow and increased intake air velocity.

Cast aluminum construction with the Overtake star logo embossed on the side. Gaskets and fittings are included. Overtake also made a nice installation video for this part.

Fits all 2022+ Subaru WRX equipped with larger-inlet aftermarket turbos. Also fits similarly-upgraded 2020+ Legacy XT/Outback XT, and 2019+ Ascent. Note that we do NOT recommend this inlet for stock-turbo cars. For that you would want the original Overtake aluminum turbo inlet.
