This part is a collaboration we did with Overtake. We came up with the design, and Overtake provided the manufacturing know-how and the super-trick reflective gold foil. The Overtake AVCS Heat Shield solves a problem that comes with adding an aftermarket header to a 2008-2021 WRX STI. The problem is that heat from an un-shielded header can cook -- or at worst even melt or burn -- the factory plastic heat shield, and then the AVCS wiring and solenoid on the right side of the engine. We've seen road race cars that had all the plastic and insulation melt off the wiring on that side of the engine. Some cars have actually caught the whole wiring harness on fire.
The Overtake AVCS Heat Shield blocks the direct transmission of heat and reduces the chance of heat damage to your sensitive AVCS parts. The all-stainless steel shield clips and bolts on to the right side of the block just like the stock plastic shield, guarding the plastic cam cover and wiring harness from radiant heat from the header. (It uses the factory bolt.) The gold foil provides extra reflectivity and gives a space-age appearance. We highly recommend adding an AVCS heat shield any time you replace the stock manifold with an aftermarket header.
