This is my dream bass. It’s thin, not heavy, comfortable, of course has a neck dive, smooth fretboard, pickups in the place I want, loud and deep tone (using my 50th Anniversary Glenn Hughes 50W Orange Bass Amp). Gorgeous and great to play on. I feel like Jack Cassidy. ONLY THING: I wish Eastwood still made the hard shell case that was meant specifically for this bass! It’s out of production now. They do make a hard shell case for their Hooky Viking style bass and it fits this one but eh, I’d rather the one made for Classic 4 Bass lol. Anyway, I did just order a hard shell case for an acoustic bass (Ibanez AEB50C hard shell case) that had the seemingly fitting dimensions for this Classic 4 Bass. I will test the fit in a couple days.
I was impressed by the photos of the Eastwood Classic 4 Bass and watched a few player reviews on YouTube, which were equally impressive. But I have to say, this bass exceeded my expections. Right out of the box this bass needed no set-up whatsoever. I tuned it up and it was ready to play. The action is low and sounds absolutely amazing with the two EW-Retro Humbucker pickups. And I especially like the fact that the upper Humbucker pickup, being close to the neck, provides a real heavy thump intonation almost like Paul McCartney's original Hofner. This bass is beautifully well crafted with quality hardware and very stylish in its appearance, like a genuine vintage instrument but for a fraction of the cost. I would definitely recommend this for any bass player, young or old, novice or experienced. It's truly a phenomenal bass for the price.
I've always wanted an Eastwood, finally got the chance but, sadly, Covid & Brexit slowed things down big time…however, Matthew, Vince & Mike kept me informed of the schedule, responded immediately to my occasional queries about recommended strings and many other things. All in all…a fantastic dream bass (I got the greenburst Classic 4) from a great company run by amazing, friendly & helpful people. 5 stars!!
My Classic 4 is the first instrument I have bought from Eastwood but I guarantee it will not be the last! Customer service is top notch and the bass itself is not only beautiful but a joy to play. The short scale and lighter weight suit me perfectly, the classic looks are just what I wanted.
I've been playing bass for 35 years, and I have owned some very fine (and very expensive) instruments. I recently moved to 30" scale basses due to tendon and arthritis issues in my left hand. I have, up until now, found short scale basses lacking in depth of tone and overall "thunder." Enter the Eastwood Classic 4. Not only is this bass utterly flawless in construction and finish, it is an absolute BEAST tonally. Playing fingerstyle as in this video, it's warm and thumpy and growly and HUGE. But I can flip to the bridge pickup, and with a pick and some practiced palm muting, I can absolutely nail the "tic-tac" sound that's so crucial to playing Elvis or Johnny Cash tunes. It's light, there's very little neck dive for a hollow body, and it's simply a joy to play. When I was setting it up (with D'Addario Half-Rounds), I kept dropping the bridge looking for the spot where I'd get some fret buzz and would have to bring it back up. I never found it... the action is ridiculously low, but I have no buzz at all, even when I'm digging in (which I tend to do... I'm a pretty heavy-handed player). Does the hollow body feed back? Well, YEAH... when I hit it with my Earthquaker Devices Westwood overdrive, I can actually get controlled feedback... making me feel like the Carlos Santana of bass! It's an absolutely dead gorgeous instrument with it's lizard-like green finish... I have never had more strangers come up to me and comment on how beautiful my instrument is. I'm just having fun playing this thing (hence my idiotic grinning in the video). It almost seems wrong that I was able to bring this into my stable at this price point, when I have basses five times as expensive that aren't as good. Just get one, you will NOT be sorry. Eastwood knocked this one out of the park... it's now my go-to bass, and I expect it will remain so. "Oh no, there goes Tokyo, go go Godzilla!" PS - get the matching hard case. Fits perfectly, and it's an excellent quality case for the money.
First gig tonight with my Eastwood Classic 4 bass in iguana-like green burst. I have to say that my expectations are exceeded in every way. I moved to short-scale basses a few years ago due to problems with tendonitis and arthritis in my left hand, and I have tried several different instruments looking for one that truly delivered tonally. The Eastwood is simply phenomenal. I play in a band that does music from 1960-1969, and I need to be able to get a good Motown thump as well as some crazy psychedelic mayhem. I could not be happier than I am with this bass... I had more fun playing tonight than I have in YEARS. I run into an always-on Darkglass Vintage preamp, and an OvniFX Smoothie compressor, plus an Earthquaker Devices Westwood overdrive when I really want to make the rafters tremble. My rig is a 500w Fender Rumble head into 1x15 and 4x10 cabs. The sound I was getting on stage was PERFECT... thumpy low-mids, tremendous growl when I dug in with my right hand. I strung it with D'Addario half-rounds, and I could not be happier with the tone and the playability. When I was setting up the bass, I kept dropping the action to see how low I could go without getting any fret buzz, and I pretty much bottomed out the bridge with no rattle at all. The thing plays itself. Our keyboard player (who I'm next to on stage) just kept looking at me and laughing, cuz she could see how much damn fun I was having. And after the show, our lead guitarist came over and said, "Man, that thing sounds like Godzilla." This was after I kicked on the Westwood overdrive for "Born To Be Wild," and was getting some extraordinary controlled harmonic feedback... with a bass!!! I felt like a total rock star! Just to cover the bases in this review, the fit and finish on the instrument are FLAWLESS... it's absolutely gorgeous to look at, with no funky bits at all. It looks like a high-end custom shop instrument. Our rhythm guitarist, who collects all kinds of wonderful vintage instruments, asked, "What did you pay for that? $1500-2000?" Heh-heh. I've been playing bass for 40 years, and I have owned some VERY expensive basses in my life. This Classic 4 is more fun to play than any bass I've ever owned. Get yourself one. You will NOT be disappointed!
My second Classic 4, sadly my first was stolen. Love the white one as much as my orange model. Playability is great and the range of tones I can achieve is impressive. I play a wide range of genre so it helps to be able to range from classic thumping tones to bright mids and highs. Loving it!
In the last year or so, I have purchased 3 Eastwood basses- 2 Classic 4s and a BV. I love all three and, to be honest, I'm not sure I'll use anything but Eastwood basses ever again. They are mercifully light, easy to play and can achieve a variety of tones. I play in a two-piece (bass and drums) rock band (The Cemetery Boys in Norfolk, VA USA) so the bass guitar needs to roar and the Eastwoods do that! I'm 100% satisfied with the quality, price and prompt delivery.

I recently bought this lovely Classic 4 and cannot stop playing it! Playing it in a seated position is insanely comfortable and the woodsy, warm tones it produces are fantastic! The neck is really comfortable and the thing is just plain gorgeous!
